The settings that matter

Add a Browser source in OBS and set:
  • URL: your overlay URL (Copy URL in the editor or on the overlay card).
  • Width / Height: match your overlay size. Default is 1920 × 1080.
  • Custom frame rate: leave off unless you know you need it.
Leave “Shutdown source when not visible” off for alert overlays. If OBS shuts the page down, alerts that fire while the scene is hidden are gone.

Sound from overlays

OBS plays browser source audio through Control audio via OBS (right-click the source → Properties). Turn it on if your alert sounds are silent, and check the source’s volume in the audio mixer.

Common fixes

  • Overlay is blank: is it switched on? Overlays render only while active.
  • Old version showing: right-click the browser source → Refresh. Layout changes need a refresh; live events don’t.
  • Clips won’t autoplay with sound: browsers block autoplay audio. In the clips widget settings, keep Muted on, or use Control audio via OBS which is exempt from autoplay rules.
  • Wrong size / cut off: browser source width and height must match the overlay’s size exactly. Don’t stretch it with the transform handles.
