# Overlays overview

> Browser-source overlays for OBS: pick a template, drop in widgets, paste one URL.

An overlay is a web page you add to OBS as a browser source. StreamWizard
renders your widgets on it: alerts, clips, timers, text, IRL data, or anything
you build yourself.

## How it fits together

1. **Create an overlay** from a template (or blank).
2. **Edit it** in the overlay editor: place widgets, tweak their settings.
3. **Paste the URL** into an OBS browser source.
4. **Flip it on** with the switch on the overlay card when you go live.

One overlay can hold many widgets. Most streamers end up with two or three
overlays: one for the main scene, one for alerts, one for BRB.

## Templates

New overlays start from a template so you never face an empty canvas:

* **Starting soon**: title, countdown, clock.
* **Just chatting**: label and clock, room for your cam.
* **Clips showcase**: your top clips on a loop. Good for BRB screens.
* **Alert box**: follow, sub, cheer, and raid alerts.
* **Auto switcher monitor**: which scene you're on and how close the auto
  switcher is to changing it. Stays hidden until your bitrate slides.
* **Walking stats** (GPS): speed, distance, location and weather along the
  bottom, read from your phone's GPS.
* **Blank**: for when you know exactly what you want.

Templates are built for one type. Pick **GPS** as the type and you'll see the
GPS templates instead of the OBS ones.

Every template is a starting point. Everything on it can be moved, restyled,
or deleted.

## Simple and Pro mode

The editor opens in **Simple** mode: canvas, widget settings, and the
essentials. Switch to **Pro** in the header for the layers panel plus
rotation, z-index, and opacity controls. Your choice sticks.

## OBS vs GPS overlays

* **OBS**: rendered in an OBS browser source. This is the normal one.
* **GPS**: opened in your phone's browser while you stream. It reads GPS on
  the device, which powers the IRL widgets (speed, altitude, distance).
